Spain to Eurovision

First off, Happy new year to all and Merry times

Anyone who knows me knows that i have been a fan of the Eurovision contest for a long time, i like this contest much more than any other music show out there for a few reasons, one is that it provides a platform for bands to showcase original music, and secondly it introduces a worldwide musical spectrum

I try to stay objective with my vote and listen to songs carefully, but this year i may have a problem staying objective since Spain picked one of my favorite bands to send to Malmö

I have been a fan of "El sueño de Morfeo" since 2008 when i first heard their song "Si No Estas" and it still is one of my favorite songs, here is one from their last album for you to enjoy

Bang Bang Bang Boom Boom Boom

photob2.png

What a fantastic catchy song, even though i'm not much into blues, Beth Hart is an amazing singer with chops to best all the rest, here's her new song from the upcoming album of the same name, which is only available in Europe right now (don't get me started on the stupidity of record labels and the laws concerning music publishing) Enjoy the song

Dumb ways to die

I really don't know what to make of this video by Tangerine Kitty and no clue who she is either (other than her association with the Metro Trains Melbourne) but there's something here, just can't quite name it

can you??????

Money & Happiness

Happy to announce that one of my favorite songs i ever wrote, well, to be honest, with Nicky's help (although he didn't do much other than write some lyrics and some vocal melodies and a few other things) is finally on iTunes

this song has been a favorite of fans since we wrote it a few years ago and this rendition with Jade Redd makes the song even better (like, best song in history or something)

with that introduction, i'm surprised you're still here, hop on over to iTunes and get it

Rana Farhan

The best thing to sneak out of IRAN since the Mullah's destroyed that place, Rana has a fantastic voice and style and I know most of my audience won't appreciate the fantastic lyrics but you can certainly enjoy the great singing and melody and tone that is uniquely Rana, you can read more about her at

Rana Farhan

although the song was originally released in 2007 the video is new and a stunner.

i don't know who did the great visuals, sadly the artist is not credited only No One Productions, hopefully there's a name behind that I can learn soon

Mamma's Gonna make you Rock

What happens when you combine years of experience and production with a fantastic voice, add a dash of amazing visuals, and well the answer maybe something like this, although Monica is not known for Rock Opera style of music, she has proven time and again that she is among the best singers on the planet, and i like her entry into the genre, she does it well (Mónica Naranjo)

Emma Hewitt again

Whoa it's been a while since i blogged, sorry about that, but i have a great song for all to enjoy as Emma strikes again, her album has fast become one of my favorite, i'm really enjoying all the songs on it, specially this one

of note is the drums on the song, i could have sworn that the drums were programmed, but lo and behold it's an actual human playing (loose use of the term human here since he must be a cyborg or something) don't believe me watch the video, notice that he is ambidextrous as well, he switches his primary hand (the one on the snare) from left hand to right hand at will, I don't think I've ever seen a drummer do that, his drumming is not flashy but his precision is beyond human

Gotye saves the world

Get them dancing shoes

Fantastic Groovy song by Parov Stelar who marries old school swing, pop etc. to contemporary modern sounds is well know around the globe and has plenty of soundtrack and jingles to his credit

Cleo Panther is a new one for me, never heard of her and can't seem to find much info about her, but she definitely has awesome style and tone

try to stop your hips from moving while listening to this one

Enjoy

New Star rising in Turkey

A little belated but, music out of Turkey is always late to the scene, but there is plenty of talent there

Here's the new star out there "Aynur Aydin" (wikipedia in Turkish) great singer with a lot of character and style to her singing, teamed up with Tony Nilsson the accomplished Swedish songwriter gets you this catchy tune, kind of Stevie Nicks-ish despite the fact that their voices are completely different

Worth mentioning is that her fans are thinking she will be in Eurovision 2013 Sweden with this one, which is highly doubtful as one of the rules is the song presented has to be new and this was written in 2011

Enjoy

Emma Hewitt - Miss you Pradaise

Burn the Sky Down (Bonus Track Version), Emma Hewitt

My New fave, Emma Hewitt just recently released her debut album, she has worked with a few DJ's across Europe for the past few years and garnered a healthy following for her amazing voice and atmospheric singing

Basically if you are a fan of Jade Redd, Tori Amos or even Sarah McLachlan you are going to love this album, get yours at iTunes

How is it that i hadn't heard this song (2001) until now, Titiyo is her name and she hails from Sweden (yes, I know she looks native american)

fantastic R&B riffs with a ton of soul on the side, loving the slide guitar sprinkles too

bon apetit

Norway has selected a Persian, Touraj "Tooji" Keshtkar (Wikipedia Link) to represent in eurovision 2012

despite the fact that i will vote for Sweden's Loreen this year, i wish him all the best of luck, catchy tune and he proves to be a pretty good dancer too, he has a good chance of winning

news of the day (or week)

It's been a while since i blogged and i have some updates to pass along

Firstly that me Nicky and Madi are working feverishly on a few songs that will rock your socks off (literally) so maybe you want to walk around barefoot for the next few weeks, just in case

Secondly, did you guys miss the last song that we did with Jade Redd?

Thirdly, i met Alan Parsons yesterday, or rather, i shouldn't say i met him since he was pumping gas and i was running by, he was shocked that someone recognized him, since most people don't even know him, but he has been my biggest (numero uno) influence in music and i wouldn't even be a songwriter if it wasn't for him

Thank you Alan, Nicky & Madi

Fly Butterfly

with an endorsement from Sarah McLachlan, i could tell that this song would be something special but i never imagined it to be so fun and quirky, Butterfly (yes that's her real name) does a great job of writing a song that is both lighthearted and fun while layering some fantastic clever guitar riff's on top

Enjoy

Sweden get's it

finally another promising song for Eurovision, after all the ethnic traditional songs and comedic entries, this is the second song that i like this year at the contest (the other being Zséda with Legyen Úgy from Hungary)

very impressive expressive dancer as well

good luck to Loreen

I don't get it

If you have been following this blog (as if there is anything more important) you know that i am a big fan of eurovision song contest, but it seems like the Europeans over there sometimes take things too far (outer limits)

I have followed (as best i could) the individual country selections and have already decided on a few artists that i like example Polina Gagarina from Russia (click here if you don't remember the song)

so you can imagine my surprise when the russian judges picked this song

what do you think?

Great Video

Never heard of Yuksek before and i can't say i much care for the song, it's ok but the video production is a fabulous Ok Go type of stuff, well thought out and performed, looks pretty low budget as well which means great ideas look great no matter how much money you throw at it, enjoy

Gotye has Got ya

our favorite Vegemite strikes again, the brilliant songwriter from Australia has an infectious originality that happens once in a generation and now that he is signed to a major label, his rise has been guaranteed, and if you've never heard of him you owe it to your ears to look him up

enjoy the short song and the awesome video, not only is the music very Peter Gabriel(ish) but also the video

Please Engage Responsibly

Hello everyone

I'd like to make a few things clear.

the sole purpose of any blog is to engage an audience, and since i know that a few hundred people actually (amazingly) read my rants and raves i'd like to ask you to get involved in the blog and make comments, comment on the music, make a political statement or even a medical statement, whatever you like but write something.

it can be a word, a sentence or a whole essay, the only moderation i do in the blog is against profanity or obscenity everything else is fine.

you can comment here (preferably) or Facebook or Google+ or better yet link to my blog and write something in your own blog (if you blog) and i'll get engaged with your blog.

Thank you

Eurovision 2012 in Baku

Although Eurovision 2012 is still a few months away, it's a habit of mine to pick my favorites for the show and i like to start off early with this fantastic song "The Game Is Over" from with Polina Gagarina

The song still hasn't made it past the Russian finals, but i'm pretty confident it will (well keeping fingers crossed)

Worth mentioning is that even though Polina is quite beautiful and talented, the genius behind the song is none other than world renowned Konsantin Meladze, who along with brother Valery have completely revamped the Russian music scene with hit after hit, year after year since around 2000

I like Eurovision much more than all the other (supposed) music contests out there and can't stand American Idol (or it's international brethren) although American Idol participants are quite talented, for me it's like judging a painting by the quality of the frame

what do you think of Idol and other talent shows?

Enjoy the song

Start Over Again (feat. Nicky Shane)

It's been a little while since i recorded a song (it's all the singers fault) but i gave a preview of this one a while ago so you all must have heard it by now, and now it's available on iTunes so you can buy it, and listen as much as you like. Later

Ladi Dadi

A University of Santa Barbara alum makes Steve Aoki a special mention with this new song that is quite different and unique in many ways, hailing from the electro house genre he has taken a big step towards pop with this one

Although the music video is quite disturbing, it's well produced and quite Hollywood(ish), but the song is fantastic

I guess it's good to have a successful chain of restaurant behind you (Benihana) to get started in a music career and of course talent goes a long way too

Another year, Another Song

Here we are again at the beginning of another year and another resolution, I'm so proud of myself, i broke my all time record this year and stuck to my resolution for a whopping 7 days, Whoohoo, awesome.

But apart from that, while everybody was celebrating and hopping about, Nicky & I locked ourselves away in a dark deep hole to bring you another offering from the recesses of our hearts (or some other place), appropriately called "Start Over Again" talk about great timing.

Also, I am going to do something I normally wouldn't, which is to publish the song here before posting it on iTunes or Amazon etc., this will provide an opportunity for me to tweak the song based on your comments, so have at it and comment away, we can shape the final song together.

Thank you all, and have a great year

Simplicity's the muse

ROA (Rise of artificial) are a Romanian band that have been around awhile (Official Site) definitely not teenagers anymore, alas no albums or hits to their name but this song proves that a brilliant song will always rise to the top

this is fantastic video production, although the song is excellent on it's own merits, quirky and different with an infectious groove to boot, in the end the video makes this song exceptional, low budget but extremely well thought out and the humor puts it way up there

enjoy
